My seven-year-old daughter has been sick for a couple of days. High fever, probably the flu.<\/p>\n
She woke up tonight, sometime around 9 o\u2019clock, frantic and consume dwith a fear that she could not (or would not) articulate.<\/p>\n
Glassy eyed, staring\u2026 Looking from my face to the face of her mother\u2026 She would not answer our questions.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s wrong?<\/p>\n
Are you going to be sick?<\/p>\n
Did you have a bad dream?<\/p>\n
Her hands shook. Her feet trembled. She did not answer.<\/p>\n
Finally, after much questioning, she said \u201cTomorrow. I\u2019m scared of tomorrow. The flashing lights.\u201d<\/p>\n
Unsettling.<\/p>\n
Maybe it was just a dream. Night terrors that she inherited from her mother or for me.<\/p>\n
But I pray she didn\u2019t inherit something more from me, that intermittent precognition that sometimes comes to me in dreams.<\/p>\n
