Poetic Divination

“Fly Like an Eagle” by Steve Miller

Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’

Into the future

Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’

Into the future

I want to fly like an eagle

To the sea

Fly like an eagle

Let my spirit carry me

I want to fly like an eagle

Till I’m free

Oh, Lord, through the revolution

Feed the babies

Who don’t have enough to eat

Shoe the children

With no shoes on their feet

House the people

Livin’ in the street

Oh, oh, there’s a solution

I want to fly like an eagle

To the sea

Fly like an eagle

Let my spirit carry me

I want to fly like an eagle

Till I’m free

Fly through the revolution

Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’

Into the future

Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’

Into the future

Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’

Into the future

Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’

Into the future

I want to fly like an eagle

To the sea

Fly like an eagle

Let my spirit carry me

I want to fly like an eagle

Till I’m free

Fly through the revolution

Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’

Into the future

Time keeps on slippin’, slippin’, slippin’

Into the future

(Sorry, I’ve been listening to a lot of music from the ’70’s lately. A lot of it — Earth Wind & Fire, Kool and the Gang, The Steve Miller Band, and so on . . . you shouldn’t turn your nose up at it. There’s some great stuff back there and when you mix it in with Beck, The Gorillaz, Big Audio Dynamite, Princess Superstar, Britney, the Beastie Boys, and a little of Madonna’s early years . . . it’s a great way to start the day. All of a sudden, you’re back in the roller rink, leaning on the rail and waiting for Couples Skate, your heart full of hope and terror all at the same time…)

(I mean, come on, when was the last time you really listened to ‘Fly Like and Eagle”? It’s a beautiful song . . . although Sam and Julia and more partial to ‘Boogie Nights’…)
