Eighty thousand people died instantly on this day in 1945 when the United States of America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima just after 8:15 in the morning. Sixty thousand more would die in the following months.

There’s a scene in Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns” where one of the characters makes the point that some decisions are too big, there’s no way to judge them.
