The Conversation: Polynesian Programmers
Me and Jack and Steve in a meeting…
Me: “What’s ‘wiki’ mean?”
Jack: “I think it comes from the Hawaiian word for ‘quick’ or something.”
Me: “Wiki is a fun word.”
Steve: “You know, my name in Hawaiian is ‘kiwi’.”
Me: “Kiwi?”
Steve: “Yeah, that’s how you say my name in Hawaiian.”
Me: “It’s also how you say fruit.”
Steve: “Kiwi Wiki.”
Jack: “Quick fruit.”
Steve: “A gay runner from New Zealand.”
Jack: “Kiwi Lewis.”
Steve: “And the News.”
Jack: “Didn’t he just die?”
Me: “Huey Lewis?”
Jack: “Yeah.”
Me and Steve: “No.”
Jack: “Who just died? Somebody did. Someone from the eighties just died.”
Steve: “Hasselhoff?”
(Which is not a bad tangent for a meeting which started with Jack saying: “No matter what you’re doing, it does the right thing and lets you do the thing you think you’re supposed to be doing.”)
